ENG 101 - Composition I Credits: 3 Textbook Information: Some sections are offered with low-cost (<$40) or no-cost textbooks. Check course notes in MyCSN for textbook and fee details. Description ENG 101 is designed to strengthen college-level writing skills, with particular attention to audience, purpose, and rhetorical situation focusing on the writing process and introducing research.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Use reading comprehension strategies (e.g. predicting, visualizing, questioning, identifying, connecting, and inferring) to derive meaning from a research source.
- Identify purpose, audience, and rhetorical situation.
- Use active reading strategies to assess and analyze information from a range of sources.
- Demonstrate information literacy by locating, evaluating, and integrating relevant information sources.
- Use a process approach to compose complete, coherent, and well-developed thesis-driven essays.
- Employ appropriate documentation to support research-based essays.
- Control conventions of language, mechanics, and MLA format.
