Description
ENG 101 is designed to strengthen college-level writing skills, with particular attention to audience, purpose, and rhetorical situation focusing on the writing process and introducing research.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Use reading comprehension strategies (e.g. predicting, visualizing, questioning, identifying, connecting, and inferring) to derive meaning from a research source.
  2. Identify purpose, audience, and rhetorical situation.
  3. Use active reading strategies to assess and analyze information from a range of sources.
  4. Demonstrate information literacy by locating, evaluating, and integrating relevant information sources.
  5. Use a process approach to compose complete, coherent, and well-developed thesis-driven essays.
  6. Employ appropriate documentation to support research-based essays.
  7. Control conventions of language, mechanics, and MLA format.

Prerequisite: English Placement Test; or completion of ENG 098  with a grade of C- or better; or ESL 139  with a grade of C- or better
