LAW 261 - Legal Research I Credits: 3 Description Legal research and terminology, including law library familiarization. Finding and reading statutes and case law to prepare legal memoranda. Emphasis will be placed upon computer assisted legal research tools such as Westlaw, Lexis, and the Internet. Students please note: LAW 261 - Legal Research I must be completed in your final semester before graduation, not earlier.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Recognize, locate and effectively use in research the federal case law, federal statutes, state case law, and state statutes.
- Organize literate memoranda to communicate legal information to an attorney.
- Examine the basics of legal research using Westlaw, Lexis, and law related websites on the Internet.
- Use proper citation form.
Prerequisite: LAW 231 with a grade of C- or higher. Corequisite: None Graded: Letter Grade
