Description
Principles and techniques of ophthalmic procedures including visual acuity measurement, lensometry, tonometry, depth perception, fusion, pupillary evaluation, history taking and color vision. Care, maintenance, calibration of instrumentation and inventory control are included.

Student Learning Outcomes

Measure subjectively and objectively the refractive state of the eye.
Test ocular ductions and versions.
Perform basic tests to evaluate binocular vision.
Describe the appropriate application of various tests and procedures.
Standardize equipment.
Recognize any deviation from normal test results.
Operate and maintain clinical equipment including but not limited to keratometers, slit lamps, pupilometers, lensometers, and tonometers.
Apply safety and security procedures in relation to ophthalmic equipment.
Provide a clean, attractive, orderly and comfortable patient setting.
Maintain a clinic inventory in relation to ophthalmic equipment and instrument needs.
Provide appropriate maintenance, calibration and care of ophthalmic equipment.
