PHIL 119 - Introduction to the Old Testament Credits: 3 Description General survey of the books of the Old Testament from a nondenominational perspective. Covers the history, ideas and theological beliefs of Biblical Israel and deals with those themes in the light of archeological research and literary criticism.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Analyze the various issues concerning the formation of the books of the Old Testament.
- Describe the historical settings of the books of the Old Testament.
- Recognize the story, worldview, and theology of the Old Testament.
- Distinguish important concepts such as covenant, Torah, Israel, Yahweh, etc.
- Compose well-constructed writing about the Old Testament such as papers, essays, reading responses, summaries, etc.
