PHIL 119 - Introduction to the Old Testament

Description
General survey of the books of the Old Testament from a nondenominational perspective. Covers the history, ideas and theological beliefs of Biblical Israel and deals with those themes in the light of archeological research and literary criticism.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Analyze the various issues concerning the formation of the books of the Old Testament.
  2. Describe the historical settings of the books of the Old Testament.
  3. Recognize the story, worldview, and theology of the Old Testament.
  4. Distinguish important concepts such as covenant, Torah, Israel, Yahweh, etc.
  5. Compose well-constructed writing about the Old Testament such as papers, essays, reading responses, summaries, etc.
