PHIL 203 - Survey of Existentialism

Description
A survey of the various influences and responses which led to existential thought. Readings from Kierkegaard, Sartre, Nietzsche and Buber will be emphasized.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Explain the place of Existentialism within philosophy.
  2. Discuss common themes within Existentialist thought — for example: freedom, responsibility, human condition, the absurd, etc.
  3. Analyze the views and theories of Existential philosophers.
  4. Compose well-constructed philosophical writing such as papers, essays, reading responses, summaries, etc.
  5. Evaluate reasoning and arguments.
  6. Demonstrate critical reading skills.
