PHIL 203 - Survey of Existentialism Credits: 3 Description A survey of the various influences and responses which led to existential thought. Readings from Kierkegaard, Sartre, Nietzsche and Buber will be emphasized.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Explain the place of Existentialism within philosophy.
- Discuss common themes within Existentialist thought — for example: freedom, responsibility, human condition, the absurd, etc.
- Analyze the views and theories of Existential philosophers.
- Compose well-constructed philosophical writing such as papers, essays, reading responses, summaries, etc.
- Evaluate reasoning and arguments.
- Demonstrate critical reading skills.
