Description The fundamentals of ecology and levels of population, community, and the ecosystem.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Compare the interactions between organisms and their environment and how they control the distribution of species.
- Analyze the scope of ecological research from organismal to global ecology.
- Compare ecology and evolutionary biology.
- Compare both biotic and abiotic limiting factors of ecosystems, including the role of biogeochemical cycling.
- Interpret the different patterns of population growth and explain the environmental factors that underlie each pattern.
- Contrast between community structure and the various forms of biodiversity.
- Separate terrestrial and aquatic biomes and their specific defining characteristics.
