MUSE 221 - Symphony Orchestra II Credits: 1 Description This course is intended for orchestral conductors to develop a broad based knowledge of performance practices within orchestral literature from the Renaissance to the Present. In addition to course participation as an instrumentalist, students will participate in the teaching, rehearsing and conducting of specific pieces in order to develop rehearsal techniques relating to individual styles within the standard orchestral literature.
Student Learning Outcomes
- To identify best-practice performance techniques specific to style periods within orchestral literature, (i.e. bowing techniques, dynamic implications, melodic interpretation).
- Develop and demonstrate rehearsal strategies to teach stylistic performance techniques specific to the many periods within orchestral literature.
- Create a short research/reference document revealing the findings during the course of the semester.
