FUNS 122 - Introduction to Funeral Service

Description
This course provides an introductory look into the field of funeral service, the vocabulary of the industry, as well we why ethics are integral to the profession. Emphasis is on the history and evolution of funeral service practices, and how contemporary issues in society are impacting the industry. Field trips may be required.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Define specialized vocabulary and terminology unique to the funeral service industry.
  2. Explain contemporary topical issues facing the funeral service industries professionals and their customers. 
  3. Explain why ethical behavior and decision making are integral to a successful career in funeral service.
  4. Compare and contrast how licensure requirements differ from state to state, with specific emphasis on the funeral service licensure process in Nevada.
  5. Analyze the history and evolution of the funeral service profession and how it relates to modern day practices.
  6. Use ethical decision-making and problem-solving skills for the funeral service profession.
