NURS 280 - Evidence-Based Practice for Quality Improvement Seminar Credits: 2 Description This course focuses on qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method research, which compares and evaluates evidence-based practice and healthcare in clinical practice. This seminar course introduces registered nurses in the RN to BSN program to the concepts and principles of evidence-based practice (EBP) as they apply to quality improvement in healthcare settings. The course emphasizes the importance of utilizing current research evidence, clinical expertise, and patient preferences to inform nursing practice and drive improvements in patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Describe the role of healthcare and, specifically, nursing research for nursing and evidence-based practice.
- Apply the principles of evidence-based practice (EBP).
- Compare and contrast characteristics, usage, and contributions of qualitative, quantitative, and multiple-design research methods.
- Evaluate the quality and validity of research studies relevant to nursing practice.
- Identify systems for determining validity and reliability of research, and cause and effect relationships.
- Utilize frameworks such as PICO (Patient/Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) to formulate clinical questions and search for relevant evidence.
- Analyze and evaluate various nursing concepts in the context of evidence-based practice and evolving healthcare trends.
