Description
Survey of elementary principles of general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry, and their application to living systems. For non-science majors and students majoring in nursing and allied health.

- Compute chemical calculations, conversions, and the mole.
- Diagram electronic structures of atoms and valence electrons.
- Diagram covalent and ionic compounds.
- Describe and compute the different types of solutions.
- Explain acids, bases, and the concept of pH.
- Diagram organic compounds with various functional groups.
- Analyze oxygen and sulfur containing organic molecules.
- Diagram and discuss carbohydrate, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids.
- Explain the metabolism of glucose and the production of CO2 and ATP.
Prerequisite: High school chemistry or Instructor approval
