Description
Intensive introduction to the chemistry of carbon and its functional groups, including the structure and behavior of its molecules. Laboratory emphasis is on natural processes.

- Use IUPAC Nomenclature rule in naming organic compounds.
- Explain reaction mechanisms including; SN1, SN2, E1 and E2 reactions
- Demonstrate a knowledge of reactions involving alkanes, alkenes, alkynes and alcohols.
- Perform synthesis using aromatic substitution reactions.
- Predict products using basic organic reagents.
- Propose simple synthesis pathways for target molecules.
- Perform routine organic experiments in the laboratory,.
- Understand basic Organic Chemistry concerns in life.
