Emphasizes cardiorespiratory pathophysiology of the pediatric/neonatal patient. Introduction and advanced pediatric/neonatal concepts developed in context of clinical practice guidelines, therapist driven protocols and critical pathways.

Student Learning Outcomes

Explain embryologic and postnatal development of the cardiopulmonary systems.
Differentiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation for the neonatal and pediatric patient.
Recommend appropriate respiratory care treatment modalities and modify as needed.
List and describe common neonatal and pediatric disease states and conditions.
Summarize concepts of mechanical ventilation as applied to the neonatal and pediatric patient.
Prepare for the Perinatal/Pediatric Specialty Examination given by the NBRC.
