DH 211 - Dental Materials and Techniques for Dental Hygienists Credits: 2 Description Study of dental materials including physical and chemical properties, manipulation, utilization, and application in dental and dental hygiene procedures.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Identify the various dental materials and give examples of the proper utilization of each material.
- Demonstrate understanding of the proper manipulation of alginate, elastomeric materials, and gypsum products.
- List the ideal properties of various materials.
- Demonstrate appropriate procedures of taking alginate impressions and constructing dental diagnostic models.
- Recognize the various dental restorative materials during examination or prophylaxis.
- Demonstrate amalgam manipulation, margination, and polishing.
- List the procedures for making mouth guards.
- Identify proper rubber dam placement.
- Demonstrate proper utilization of electronic pulp testing equipment.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of laboratory safety.
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill of dental materials science in providing patient care.
- Manipulate any dental material appropriate to the discipline of dental hygiene.
- Evaluate the condition of various dental materials during examination and/or prophylaxis.
