LAS 224 - Mexican CultureSame as: SPAN 224 . Credits: 3 Description This course focuses on elements that contribute to the formation of the culture and identity of the Mexican nation: history, religion, music, art, food, movies and TV, traditions, celebrations and folklore, social realities, and the relationship with the U.S. Taught in English.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Understand the connection between history, politics, and culture in Mexico.
- Analyze the role of cinema, TV, music, and art in the formation of the Mexican identity.
- Understand the influence exerted by religion, traditions, gender roles, and education in the perpetuation of cultural beliefs and stereotypes.
- Discuss the role of celebrations, folklore, and food in daily life and in Mexican society in general.
- Analyze the relationship between Mexico and the United States and the differences between the two cultures.
