Students will learn practical strategies for working with people with mental illness. Includes a brief history, social stigma, major diagnostic categories, and common treatments for those suffering from mental illness.

Explain the history of treatment of persons with mental illness.
Describe how culture influences, to include stigmas, impact the public’s perception and treatment of persons with mental illness.
Identify major psychological disorders categories according to the DSM.
Explain common treatment for the major psychological disorders.
Identify practical resources and or strategies to better serve persons suffering from mental disorders.
