Description
This interdisciplinary course focuses on the motivation for terrorism and political violence. It addresses the question, “What makes an otherwise ordinary person deliberately attack unarmed civilians who have personally done the perpetrator no wrong and is in no position to redress the perpetrator’s grievances?”

Student Learning Outcomes

Distinguish among the various types of political violence (civil war, revolution, terrorism, military groups, genocide, guerilla insurgency, etc.).
Describe the general evolution of terrorism from the 1st century AD to the present.
Analyze the historical, psychological, sociological, economic, and political engines that motivate terrorism.
Analyze the political, economic, psychological, and sociological approaches and strategies for combating terrorism.
