SON 275L - Vascular Sonography Laboratory I Credits: 1 Description Focuses on the use of “Direct Testing” methods in the performance of vascular ultrasound procedures in a supervised lab on campus.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate proper technique for operation of vascular ultrasound equipment.
- Recognize normal and abnormal duplex and color Doppler patterns seen on vascular ultrasound exams.
- Know, display, and practice proper techniques for safety of the patient, personnel & self.
- Demonstrate oral communication by obtaining proper history information from patient.
- Determine proper sonographic settings and transducer selection for vascular exam being performed.
- Evaluate Doppler waveforms and patterns for appropriate settings and image quality.
- Recognize pathological conditions associated with the cerebrovascular and extra-cranial vessels and give a differential diagnosis for that pathology.
- Recognize pathologic conditions on vascular ultrasound exams of the upper and lower extremity vessels and give a differential diagnosis for that pathology.
- Perform a vascular ultrasound examination of the Carotid Arteries.
- Perform a vascular ultrasound examination of the Upper Extremity Venous System.
- Perform a Duplex ultrasound examination of the Upper Extremity Arterial System.
- Perform a vascular ultrasound examination of the Lower Extremity Venous System.
- Perform a Duplex ultrasound examination of the Lower Extremity Arterial System.
- Perform an ultrasound exam of the Abdominal Aorta (CARDIAC ONLY)
- Demonstrate competency as described for all vascular ultrasound exams performed using “Direct Testing” methods.
