PHYS 181 - Physics for Scientists and Engineers II

Description
Lecture in electromagnetism, Coulomb’s law, electric and magnetic fields, Gauss’ law, potential, capacitance, current and resistance, electromotive force, inductance, motion of charged particles, introduction to Maxwell’s equations and electromagnetic waves.  Note: Students must register for PHYS 181L - Physics for Scientists and Engineers Lab II  before registering for PHYS 181. 

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Know the origin of electricity and the interaction between electric charges.
  2. Solve problems involving electric forces, electric fields, electric potentials, and electric potential energies.
  3. Understand magnetic forces and the origin of magnetism.
  4. Solve problems involving electromagnetic induction.
  5. Be familiar with the circuit elements, resistors, capacitors, and inductors.
  6. Analyze and construct DC and AC circuits.
  7. Know Maxwell’s equations and the properties of electromagnetic waves.
  8. Develop the ability to reason and problem-solving skills.
