Medical Coding, CA.
HOW THIS ACADEMIC MAP IS SET UP
The academic map is set up to show students the ideal path to completing the certificate in two (2) semesters. Students who cannot take the map’s recommended number of credits each semester will take longer to complete the degree, graduate and transfer.
CSN CA MEDICAL CODING: DESCRIPTION
The Medical Coding Program is designed for students to become coding specialists with demonstrated knowledge and skills in applications of classifications and nomenclatures to health information. Coding with approved classification systems is required for direct patient care, research, and reimbursement. Graduates of the program may apply to take a national certification exam given by the American Health Information Management Association. Credentials that can be earned are the:

Certified Coding Associate (CCA),

Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or

Certified Coding Specialist - Physician Based (CCS-P)
The Medical Coding Program is limited entry so students must attend a Health Sciences Orientation, meet with a Health Programs Advisor, and complete the limited entry workshop.
