Dental Science, AS

DESCRIPTION
The Associate of Science degree in Dental Science requires four (4) semesters of coursework that prepares the student for application to the Bachelor of Science Dental Hygiene limited-entry program or as a transfer degree to a pre-dental program.  The Associate of Science degree is a general transfer program for students who are planning to transfer to UNLV, UNR, NSU, GBC or another baccalaureate-level institution.  A secondary objective may be employment in the dental office or dental marketing industry.

Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Use scientific methods to analyze a problem or issue in dental science.
  2. Explain general and oral anatomical processes and physiological processes.
  3. Relate concepts of nutrition to oral health maintenance.
  4. Evaluate ethical issues of microbiological safety in the dental office with public protection.

General Education Requirements


TOTAL GENERAL EDUCATION CREDITS: 35


300-level and above courses cannot be used to satisfy GE requirements.
Courses with a B suffix (i.e. 100B) cannot be used to satisfy general education or degree requirements for Associate of Arts, Associate of Business, and Associate of Science degrees. B suffix courses may not be transferable within NSHE.
