AM 151 - Fingerspelling I Credits: 1 Description This course is designed to develop basic skills in receptive and expressive fingerspelling.
Please note: Students MUST earn a C- or better in this course for completion of the AAS or BAS Deaf Studies.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Apply basic skills in visual discrimination by properly decoding fingerspelled minimal pairs.
- Express skills in reading simple fingerspelled words executed at normal speeds.
- Read signed numbers 0-100 given in isolation and embedded in signed phrases.
- Produce fingerspelled words and simple phrases fluently and legibly, incorporating proper movement and rhythm between letters and words.
- Produce signed numbers from 0-100 at a normal speed.
- Demonstrate appropriate ASL communication skills based on Deaf cultural norms of behavior.
- Produce in ASL a minimum of basic mathematic operations including but not limited to addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and apply them to problem solving.
