Description
This class serves as an introduction into Geographic Information Systems (GIS). This course covers the basic concepts of a GIS. Principles of cartography and spatial analysis will also be covered. The intent of this class is to prepare the student for advanced training using specific GIS software packages.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Differentiate spatial and non-spatial data.
  2. Explain scale and its importance.
  3. Differentiate raster and vector data.
  4. Navigate ArcView software.
  5. Describe applications using GIS and the benefits derived from such usage in written report format.
  6. Evaluate different parts of a map.
