DH 219 - Community Dental Health Field Experience Credits: 1 Description Prepares student to function as an effective oral health educator, practitioner, and resource person in public health settings.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Develop and apply group skills and strategies to modify the oral health behavior of individuals and groups.
- Analyze the relationship of the consumer, the health care workforce, and the financing organization in health care delivery systems.
- Apply selected social, educational and behavioral science theories to dentistry, the public, and its oral health status.
- Analyze the role of organized dental hygiene and dentistry in shaping the trends affecting the oral health care delivery system.
- Identify and apply methods of biostatistical analysis to interpret the effectiveness of health care programs.
- Assess the dental hygienists’ role in dental health programs for public schools, underserved populations, community clinics, industrial sites, penal institutions, long and short term health care facilities.
- Develop an increased sensitivity and awareness for people, their environment and the factors which influence their health decisions.
- Apply clinical skills to various populations in community settings.
