This academic map should be used by CSN students who have been accepted into the CSN Deaf Studies: American Sign Language/English Interpreting Program.
HOW THIS ACADEMIC MAP IS SET UP
The academic map is set up to show students the ideal path to completing the degree in ten (10) semesters. Students who cannot take the map’s recommended number of credits each semester will take longer to complete the degree and graduate.
CSN BAS DEAF STUDIES: AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE/ ENGLISH INTERPRETING: DESCRIPTION
This BAS program is intended for those wishing to become professional sign language interpreters. The program focuses on language (ASL and English) development and cultural studies for the lower-division portion and interpreting in the upper division portion. Students wishing to learn ASL only and not aspire toward a career in interpreting will still be able to earn an AAS degree in Deaf Studies which will prepare them to continue in other fields such as education, counseling, and social work.
Student Note: Prior to Semester #1. Apply to the Deaf Studies: American Sign Language/English Interpreting program and receive approval from the program director to enter the program. A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required to graduate
