Reading and discussion of recent literature of various types to acquaint students with contemporary writers.

Identify the works and themes of major contemporary writers.
Recall and define terms associated with contemporary literature.
Appreciate the unique ideas and contributions of contemporary writers.
Understand how these writers reflect the forces and traditions that shaped the period in which they wrote.
Recognize the contributions of these writers to current visions of our society.
Analyze individual works in relation to other works of the period and in relation to contemporary thought.
Use electronic and print resources to enhances understanding of the assigned literature.

Prerequisite: ENG 100 or ENG 101 or ENG 101H or ENG 110 or ENG 113 with a grade of C- or higher; or Department Chair or Instructor approval
