SPAN 111 - First Year Spanish I Credits: 4 Description A beginning level Spanish course emphasizing the development of language skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) and cultural understanding. Emphasis on basic communication.

- Write beginning level texts in the present tense.
- Recognize words and phrases in beginning level texts in the present tense.
- Identify elements of Hispanic culture: history, arts, geography, and appropriate social interactions.

- Practice Spanish conversations at the novice level in the present tense.
- Compose texts at the novice level in the present tense.
- Recognize words and phrases in novice level texts in the present tense.
- Identify key aspects of culture in the Spanish-speaking world, including history, the arts, traditions, and everyday interactions.
