CSEC 250 - Critical Infrastructure Technology

Credits: 3
Description
An in-depth exploration of the technologies and methodologies critical to protecting and managing essential infrastructures. Students gain comprehensive knowledge of Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), log management, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) security, Group Policy Objects (GPOs), and firewall deployment.  Learners develop the skills needed to safeguard critical systems and ensure their resilience against various threats through a combination of theoretical instruction and practical applications. Students should be equipped to design, implement, and manage robust security measures for critical infrastructure upon successful completion of the course.

Student Learning Outcomes
  1. Define key concepts and terminologies related to critical infrastructure technologies, including SIEM, log management, VoIP security, GPOs, and firewall deployment.
  2. Explain the functions and importance of SIEM systems and log management in monitoring and responding to security incidents.
  3. Demonstrate the configuration of VoIP security measures to protect communication systems from potential threats.
  4. Examine the role of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) in enforcing security policies and managing user access within a network.
  5. Assess the effectiveness of different firewall deployment strategies in various network environments to ensure optimal security.
  6. Design a comprehensive security plan for a critical infrastructure, incorporating SIEM, log management, VoIP security, GPOs, and firewall deployment.
