DESCRIPTION
The Healthcare Documentation Specialist Program prepares students to become a healthcare documentation specialist.  The program provides the basic knowledge, skills and understanding to transcribe clinical dictation and prepare patient documents with accuracy, clarity, consistency and timeliness while applying the professional and ethical conduct practices.

Student Learning Outcomes


  1. Demonstrate competence in English usage, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
  2. Demonstrate excellent listening skills.
  3. Apply correct medical style to healthcare documentation and editing as defined by recognized national associations.
  4. Operate word processing equipment along with dictation and transcription equipment.
  5. Recognize and address potential ethical issues related to clinical documentation.
